This is the time of year for a forest walk, when the autumn colours are at their finest. With this in mind we decided to take a trip to Kildare to visit Donadea Forest Park. There’s three loops available. We took on the Aymer walk, the longest of the three, way-marked with blue footprints. If you do intend to visit, the one thing we’d advise is to have €5 in coins to pay into the carpark or you could be really sneaky and avoid the toll by parking on the roadside, as many of the locals do. In addition to the magnificent autumnal coloured trees which line the path, there is a large lake which is home to lots of ducks and waterhens. A surprise feature in the walk is the 9/11 memorial, a scaled replica of the twin towers engraved with the names of the public servants lost. We were informed by a local that a Donadea man was a firefighter who had died that day and the memorial is a tribute to him.
