This is a very straightforward out and back route to Black Hill summit. There is parking for maybe 15 cars at the start of the trail at Ballynultagh Gap. The route on the ascent is fairly easy to navigate, just follow the path. Nearing the summit, the ground is boggier which requires some deviating from the path, but the trig at the top is easy to spot. A word of warning: keep your wits about you on the descent through the boggy section – we almost headed away from the path when the weather took a turn and we lost all visibility. Highly recommend this walk – a quick and straightforward hike in a fairly remote area of the Dublin Mountains.
We intend on returning here some day and following the path from Black Hill over to Mullaghcleevaun and back again 🙂
